PORT HUENEME, CALIF. – The Naval Facilities Engineering Command's Engineering Service Center (NAVFAC ESC) completed the installation of a 21 kilowatt Building Integrated
Photovoltaic (BIPV) roof at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma, Ariz., and which was inspected Aug. 4. The installation has the potential to offer significant energy savings to the military and taxpayers.
"This photovoltaic panel is an excellent example of how new, innovative technology is delivering energy cost-savings to our war fighters and taxpayers," said Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center Commanding Officer, Capt. Paz B. Gomez. "The energy output is consistent and reliable, with energy costs locked in over the long term. This will reduce the burden on our energy grid, moving us closer to energy independence while meeting the federal government's renewable energy goals. And, as an added benefit, the energy generated by renewable sources will increase sustainability in federal buildings."
